My overall routine was to target for 2 days of Custom Programming training (which was mostly strength work) and two days of Conditioning class, leaving time for one day of trail running in Annadel, usually 5-7 miles with hills on the weekend. Travel, work and family being what it is, I stuck with the training about 70% of the time, but I made sure never to compromise on rest and recovery. I always made time for sleep and in the weeks leading up to the race, I took nutrition seriously – even participating in SRSCs Fall Nutritional Challenge.
When the race started, a mile in, I knew things were going well. The run felt pretty good, despite the altitude. I easily made it past all of the obstacles but one (the multirig which gets just about everyone). With only 30 burpees as penalty on this race, I set several PRs – my fastest Spartan to date, my highest ranking overall, my highest ranking in my age group and the least number of burpee penalties.
Headed home from the race, I felt inspired by the accomplishment.
