Why did you decide to join SRSC?
I joined SRSC because I was “tired of being tired”. I had been procrastinating for years. Finally, when the bathroom scale read 197 lbs, I knew had to do something soon. I searched for a gym that was not the typical crowded, boring parade of people. I found SRSC and made an appointment, met with Nikee and signed for 3 months. That was July, I’m now 180 lbs and feeling better.
What has been your most memorable achievement since becoming a member?
The first Conditioning class I attended, the first 400m I ran. I was “sucking wind” and wondering “What have I gotten myself into?” I now run 1 mile before most workouts for my warm up. A few weeks ago we timed it and my mile time was just over 8 minutes.
Favorite and least favorite exercises?
I don’t have a favorite exercise. I would have to say “anything with the barbell” .
Least favorite: A few months ago that would have easily been the jump rope! Before joining SRSC I never spent any time with a rope. I could hardly make 2-3 without missing, now my PR is probably 50-55. So, lets call “Burpee” my current least favorite.
What’s something that your gym mates would be surprised to know about you?
My Junior-Senior years of high school, I worked as a videographer at the local PBS station in Las Vegas. My job was to video tape field reports for the Interns from UNLV. My favorite reporter, the one with the best stories and the best locations, was always Kenny Mayne who went on to a huge career with ESPN.
Current goal(s) in the gym or in life?
Short term: Now that I was given an extra 5 months to train, I plan to finish my Half-Mudder in March without too much trouble. Then maybe some Spartan races.
Long term: To get better at my training, maybe diet and mostly continue to work on my health. I’m thinking maybe I could be one of the Spartans in the “Over 60 ” age group.
